Jackpot or Illusion

Will the Corporate approach SEARCH blended with a touch of “popular WEB tricks” offer a seat within the top 3 Internet SEARCH companies to the (according to the US press) “obscure french” EXALEAD player?

Kate Green from the MIT Technology Review writes on 2 pages about it (April 25, 2006)

Revolutionary …

Hello Ray CHOW,

You haven't used your Skype Credit for a long time now. (That’s true, I didn’t use the whole credit although I really bought it because the SkypeCall quality is of permament ***CRAP*** and I didn’t find any sucker within my acquaintance willing to endure such a bad call). Unless you take some action, your Skype Credit balance will expire in 7 days and you cannot use it any longer.

== What do I need to do? ==

Just make another Skype Credit purchase to add to your credit, or make a SkypeOut call to anywhere you want (we suggest you call your Mum). Alternatively, you could Personalise Skype, by purchasing a new image or ringtone. It's up to you how you spend your Skype Credit, you just need to keep your account active. After you do any one of these, all of your Skype Credit is again available for the next 180 days.

To make extra purchases, go to http://www.skype.com/go/store. To make SkypeOut calls, just use your Skype.

== Why does Skype Credit expire? ==

You're receiving this email around 7 days before your Skype Credit balance expires. Skype Credit expires 180 days after your last purchase or SkypeOut call. If you're not using your balance we need to expire the credit sooner or later to comply with normal business accounting rules. Not very exciting, but true.

(I heard some people claiming that Skype was one of the first revolution in this new century and I need now to figure out what’s wrong in our conjurer world ...!...)

Paypal

Paypal

How such an international company like Paypal can be so ignorant (or contemptible) ? I am trying to subscribe an account from the Paypal website but I have now to call their support center because it is absolutely impossible to join Paypal if your address is in Switzerland and if you don’t speak Swiss German. Hey guys, your should understand that Switzerland is one of the oldest successful federation in the world with 4 national communities and 3 official languages, Italian, French and German. Switzerland is not a German country as we are informed that the US is not a Spanish province! I did try a workaround in going on the French (France) site then in trying to modify the address which is impossible for the “country” field.  I would like to see if the Paypal people who designed the website for the European countries would accept to subscribe their own account in Russian! If you were a respectable venture, you would start first in doing the necessary effort to respect your clients nationalities.

Search in Europe

Heise

It was a long time since we didn’t hear about Quaero the European multimedia Search challenge. Heise.de today March 11th announced that a bunch of German companies decided to join the project and notably including SAP and Bertelsmann Software division. Sounds like the project still uses the same controversial code name Quaero and still no clear budget up in the air.

Women's ...

About the International Women's Day. The day was first marked as an international holiday in 1911, celebrated in Austria, Denmark, Germany and Switzerland. Men and women attended rallies calling for women to be allowed to vote, hold public office, and enjoy equal opportunities in the workforce. Today, IWD rallies, lectures and sporting events will take place all over the world. In some countries, today is the beginning of International Women's Week; in the US, it kicks off International Women's Month …

Women … and on this blog I talk about the Women’s Century (just 2 easy french words and 7 nice pictures to catch the point).

Knowledge "made in Europe"

Energysun The European commission has suggested to create the European MIT counterpart by 2010.

The Commission has launched over the past quarter a consultation to first define what will be the European Institue of Technology (EIT) missions, objectives and structure. The outcome of the consultation should be available pretty soon this year.

(SW ) Best-Before Date

Code128coupon Now that the software industry is a key part and parcel of the world economy I believe it would be a good idea to establish/legalize “ Best-Before date for Software” as an effective instrument for doping the economic growth. What I am suggesting is that any piece of software has now a Best-Before date of say 18 months from the first use and to grant the software firms the possibility to remotely and gradually spoil their SW products from the date for lapsing in order to massively encourage updates. Again, what makes me more than happy is regulation …!… for example, I would prefer to be forced to migrate on Microsoft Office Live next generation  Office 2007 in full knowledge of facts.

Who wishes to implement the “RSS Republic”?

Here is a sample idea similar to co.mments.com or cocoment.com but above all which aims to makes the blogosphere more “Democratic”.

Imagine a service where anyone will be able to freely comment any post without the risk of any possible moderation/delete/disregard arbitrary cleaver.

RSS Republic is an aggregator of conversations made for all commenters and driven by all commenters.

With RSS Republic any commenter can select

any specific post in using a bookmarklet for example exactly as with co.mments.com or cocomment.com.

The selected post and published comments on the author’s blog will be available on RSS Republic

exactly like co.mments.com does on its site.

From that time anyone will be free to leave a comment within the confines of RSS Republic on the specific post.

All comments (including thoses from the author’s blog) will be organized exactly as on any real FREE blog. Only spam and criminal words will be banished !

Not only RSS Republic will send over comment moderation and delete barbarian practice but it will even be possible to comment any post which usually cannot be commented at all like for example http://blog.searchenginewatch.com/blog/ .

Unsubscribe from so-called “moderation”

UnsubscribeI maintain that popular blogs without free comment are at their very peak just boring “authoritative” monologs running out of steam - to nimbly unsubscribe from.

Spams and monologs or blogs that are only open to very conventional filtered comments have all in common the same destiny ...!...

Furthermore, it is also quite stupid to believe that public blogs were made to express very heavy private issues without taking the risk of silly spamming. Come on!

«domestic» row

Domesticrow A group of students in London call to not be hand in glove with Google and to break up with the search engine firm this Valentines on Feb. 14th .

It's about to express one's displeasure following the recent agreement between Google and the Chinese government.
